Hi everyone! This blog post is a little different than my normal album blog post. This post is inspired by a presentation I gave yesterday at a local high school. This post is for all of you out there wondering where to go next in your life. Let me just tell you that you are already on your way to achieving your goals. If you feel like you have no idea where you are going or what you are supposed to do next you are not alone! Just keep moving! Seriously keep saying yes to every opportunity that peaks your interest, keep learning, keep working, have an open mind and be willing to follow your intuition.
Talking to these high school students about their careers and where they want to go in their life makes me remember where I was at that time. Let me tell you I had NO IDEA where I wanted to go or what I wanted to do with my life. Here I was watching friends go off to college, get jobs, make decisions and I was like- I just want to keep taking dance and art classes and make just enough money to do fun things with my friends. How in the world was I supposed to know what I was meant to do? Instead of focusing on the fact that I didn’t know where I should be headed I continued to take dance and art classes, working, making just enough money to do fun things with my friends and most importantly praying for guidance and direction. This is key to finding “success”… I had an open mind and a desire to find where I should go. I kept moving. I never stood stagnant. These qualities are so important to achieving whatever success looks like to you.
Anyways, I kept taking classes trying to find ANYTHING I could do for a career, literally with no clear direction of why I was going to school or what I was working for but again I just kept moving. After taking so many classes from ballet to watercolor painting to fashion design to family counseling and psychology my college counselor pulled me in and said hey you are two classes away from an Associate’s Degree in Visual Art. I of course took the two classes and earned that degree and STILL had no idea what I wanted to do. At this point my friend signed up to be a Mary Kay consultant and needed people to sign up so she could earn whatever it was she needed to earn. I, being a good friend, (not really, I just wanted the makeup) signed up to help her. After attending a couple classes and seeing these girls make money I was like “THIS is what I was meant to do.” And so began the journey of pursuing a career in makeup. If you are fortunate enough to be at this point in your life where you know what you want to/should be/meant to be doing then hallelujah because getting to this point is half the battle. If you are not here yet, you have to keep moving and say yes to any opportunity that presents itself. You never know when God is going to throw something at you that is clearly showing you where you are supposed to go.
Now the real fun (and work) starts! TBC
